30 Day Blog Challenge Days 2 & 3

I missed yesterday, so I am reflecting for days 2 and 3 today .

Day 2
Write about one piece of technology that you would like to try this year, and why. You might also write about what you’re hoping to see out of this edtech integration.
One piece of tech I'd like to use more and really get a lot out of is Planboard. I'm trying to figure out how/if we can plan using an iphone app. I have two small children, so getting time to actually sit down and plan is not always an option. An app would allow me to make the kinds of detailed plans I like, around the very limited schedule I have. I am more than excited to be able to use this resource, especially the share plan feature, as I am in that grey area of support and classroom teacher. With my schedule, it's also not viable to co-plan a lot of the time, so this Planboard resource should help cater more of my skills lessons to what will be actually helpful in the class.
I plan on incorporating more social media into my professional space, as well. I employ carious social media platforms to display and inform, but I'd like to do more.

Clearly I need some help perfecting this blogging experience, as well.

Day 3
Discuss one “observation” area that you would like to improve on for your teacher evaluation.
I feel my in-class discipline usually works, but that is always something that admin mentions in our reflection meetings after observations.
There are a lot of things in place at our school to ensure disciplinary actions see a resolve and follow through. I am going to try to use the system at hand more readily to ensure my students can learn in an environment that works for all of them. It was always my thought that students who are not present in class have no opportunity to learn. At our school, however, if used well, the system provides a lot of support for remediation of disciplined students -- no one falls through the cracks.
Students actually might act out in certain ways because the environment in the class is not conducive to their learning style, or they need a different kind of attention. Sending them out and meeting with them later might be a better way for the actively participating students in my room to move along at their pace, while the students who act out can get the one-on-one attention they might need -- or at least make time to develop a more effective action plan together.
This is coming off the heels of me working patiently with my toddler, who is navigating the waters of self-discovery and awareness. Sometimes he just needs a moment to cool down and regroup, a snack/drink, or refocusing before fulfilling my expectations. I need to keep this in mind, that although my students are far from two, they are going through personal transformations at more sophisticated levels.
I will continue to set the bar high and expect them to meet it, while understanding they are still just kids, but use the system in place to help them find the path to become the best possible version of themselves along the way,

30 Day Blog Challenge Day 1

Day 1
Write your goals for the school year. Be as specific or abstract as you’d like to be!

This year my goal is to stay focused and used more of the awesome curriculum developed largely by our fantastic Literacy Specialist, Mrs. Brown, with a sprinkle of my suggestion. There are a lot of great resources I haven't trapped into yet!
Another goal is to be more reflective in my teaching practice, hence this blog.
I am both excited and nervous about this new school year, but have a good idea of the trajectory & how to make it happen!
